Xiaomi already released a 5.5 inch phablet, called RedMi, last March.
Now Reuters reports that it has decided to enter the tablet market, presumably with an Android-powered device. Japan-based Sharp is rumoured to be the display supplier for this future tablet.
Xiaomi will hold a launch event in Beijing on May 15 but declined to confirm if a tablet will be announced then.
Founded in 2010, Xiaomi has distanced itself from low-cost manufacturers by successfully selling high-end smartphones. Its flagship device, the Mi 3, sold 100,000 units online in just 90 seconds when it was released last October.
