You no longer have to have a physical Amazon Echo device in your home to use Amazon’s premium integrated home service. If you’ve got an iPhone, you can open up your Amazon app and ask it a question, just as you would with a physical Echo unit. The app is able to do essentially all of the skills that your Echo can do, save opening your door locks with your voice.
The Alexa app is still essential to being able to change your Echo settings on your phone, so make sure to keep that around until Amazon decides to fold everything into one app.
Huawei also announced that it will be bringing Alexa to its Mate 9 in the near future. There may be a number of other devices getting the service after this, but the Mate 9 has been the only phone announced so far.
The update is rolling out to iOS devices now, so look out for it within the next week or so.
