In the event that you crack your screen on your new iPhone 7, you may want to get it fixed. There are a few different options that you can choose from depending on how much you want to spend and how daring you are. Let’s discuss them below.
iPhone 7 screen replacement through Apple
Perhaps the most obvious option to take it to an Apple Store. Apple gives you a few different options when it comes to how you can get your iPhone fixed.
First, you can simply ship it to Apple. You will need to fill out a service request form – the link above will guide you – or call Apple directly. You then will be shipped a box to put your iPhone in. Apple will then send it back in 3-5 days, and in return, you will have a new pristine screen.
The second option is to set up an appointment at an Apple Store and have them handle the process. Apple states that they may be able to fix your phone on site that day, and if not, you will have to wait 3-5 days as they need to send it in for repair.
The image above lists all of the available options but as you can see, it can get pretty expensive. If you want to save some money and are into letting someone else or yourself do it, then you will like the next couple of options.
Take your iPhone to your local phone repair shop
While specifics can not be made here, in my experience, local shops offer very competitive rates and may even beat Apple. If you want to keep costs down with possibly faster service or have a lot more damage that affects more than just the screen, local shops can usually fix your iPhone quickly and not charge you too much more than the screen itself.
The good news here is that you will more than likely save money, but you do run the risk of voiding your warranty if the repair shop is not verified and if they damage your device further, you may be out of luck. This is definitely something to look into, just make sure you do some research on your local repair shop to make sure they know what they are doing. In most cases Apple will never honor any warranty claims again if you’ve had it fixed by an unauthorised repair centre so always keep this in mind.
Do the repair yourself
Usually you can find replacement screens on Amazon for your specific device. Unfortunately at the time of writing, no such screens exist, at least not on Amazon but it’s unlikely to be long before we see a plethora of parts for both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. When looking at screens to buy, make sure you get the complete screen assembly, not just the glass itself and make sure you are getting a genuine product. There are always fakes on the market that may have inferior glass and components.
Keep in mind that this very risky to do and will void your warranty. Replacement screens usually cost anywhere from $150-$250 dollars. You can take a look at iFixit’s teardown of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and see if doing it yourself is something you want to embark on. This is the last option I would recommend, but if you are up for it, you will most likely save a little bit of cash.
It is always a sad day when you crack your iPhone screen, the good news is that there are options out there to help get you a new replacement. Each option is listed in the order that I suggest you follow when deciding what to do. Have you cracked your new device before? Would you repair your own screen, go to a third party shop or go to Apple direct? Let us know in the comments!
