TabletBiz: Why everything you know about mobile security will soon be wrong

NEW YORK – That was one of the key points in a presentation by analyst Jack Gold at the TabletBiz conference here today. In a survey of approximately 270 enterprises in North America, J. Gold Associates found that 80% of respondents said tablets would supplement smart phones, and 60% said that tablets would supplement laptops. However, 40% of respondents said tablets would replace laptops altogether. In fact, within three years, 40% of respondents said they expect to use mobile devices 75-100% of the time. But with this growth comes increased security risk. Gold made it clear: "Everything you know about mobile security today is wrong if we look [...]

World’s largest PC vendor Lenovo cashes in on rising demand for smartphones and tablets

Announcing its financial results for the second quarter, the firm confirmed that it hit a net profit of $220 million and said that revenue was also up by 13% year-on-year to $9.8 billion. What is clear is that smartphones and tablets played a significant role in the result, as Lenovo’s mobile device sales more than doubled compared to a year ago. Breaking down the number some more, the company detailed that smartphone shipments rocketed up 78% year-on-year in the three months to the end of September and said that tablet shipments rose more than four-fold to 2.3 million units. Verizon launches Ellipsis 7, first in a family of new Android devices

Verizon says the 7-inch Android Ellipsis 7 is the first product “in the Ellipsis family” which could mean additional tablets and/or smartphones under that brand could be in the works. Priced at $249.99 ($100 off with a new two-year contract for Internet service), the Ellipsis has a decent package of specs for the price starting with 4G LTE connectivity. While not a high end “Retina” class display, the 1280 x 800 7-inch HD display is more than adequate. The Ellipsis runs Android 4.2.2, and includes a single 3.2 megapixel rear camera, 8 GB internal storage plus an SD card slot, 1GB of RAM and a 1.2 GHZ quad-core processor. Nice feature you [...]
